Berry Picking in Medina County

By Erica Roth July 4, 2016
Store bought has nothing on fresh picked berries...they are so much juicier and sweeter when they are fresh off the plant. Once you have picked your own berries, it's hard to go back to the grocery store!  Berry picking is also a great activity to do with your kids. They can see where their food really comes from, they can learn about the growing process, and they get some time out in the sunshine!

We have rounded up the local pick your own berry farms below, but first, some berry picking tips:

  • Sunscreen-It's likely you'll be out for at least a couple hours, so slather it on!
  • Check with the farm you'll be visiting to see if you need your own container to bring the berries home.
  • Busy times-sometimes the farms get so busy the parking lot is full and they may even close early-it's best to call ahead to make sure you will get to pick when you get there.  On the same note, picking hours are often different than store hours.  Many farms keep their Facebook page updated with picking hours.
  • Freezing-Hopefully you will have a bountiful harvest and lots left over for freezing!  Freeze them in one layer on a baking sheet, then transfer them to a freezer bag.  They won't stick together!
