The pandemic couldn’t stop Sweets and Geeks from opening just a bit southeast of the Medina square last fall, and judging by the crowd when I visited on a recent Saturday afternoon, they continue to bring childhood joy to many local families.
Sweets and Geeks is a two-story candy and game store filled with unique and nostalgic candies, old-fashioned sodas, and pop culture memorabilia - complemented by a massive and somewhat mind-boggling selection of specialty board & card games.
The Sweet Part
When you enter the surprisingly large, free standing building you are met with shelves stocked to the brim with familiar candies that you know and love, retro candy, uncommon varieties of favorites like root beer Mike & Ikes, old-fashioned sodas, and specialty candies that come in fun and unusually shaped containers. The younger children in your group will be delighted with the Pez containers and other treats in the shapes of their favorite characters but watch out - a lot of the goodies are within arms reach of the stroller (I may have learned this the hard way).

The Geeky Part
A few stairs up onto the second level and you will find head-to-toe board and card games. There are games for rent, private rooms that you can reserve for your friends or family for game night (maybe a birthday party idea for the gamer in your life?), toys and novelties for sale including LEGOs, Harry Potter merchandise, Star Wars memorabilia, and much more. Make sure you check out the life-sized replica of the Simpsons family on their couch!

Sweets and Geeks hit the sweet spot with it’s unique combination of candy and board games, decor, and in-store events. There is something for the littlest gamer all the way up to Grandma and Grandpa enjoying the vintage candy from their past. A specialty business that manages to open and thrive in the midst of a global pandemic is special indeed, and we are thrilled that they chose Medina as their home.
